Abstract

The study entitled, “Analysis of Pedagogical Practices Evolved in Teaching of English for Students’’ Cognitive Learning at Primary Level”. Objective of the study was to analyze the pedagogical practices evolved in teaching of English for students’ cognitive learning at primary level. The study was survey and descriptive in nature. The quantitative as well as qualitative (QUAN-QUAL) technique was adopted. The head teachers, teachers who teach English and students of primary classes were the population. The questionnaire was developed for data collection. The validity of tool was ensured through experts’ opinion and reliability was calculated through Cronbach Alpha through SPSS-24. The researcher personally visited and collected the data from respondents. The collected data was analyzed through SPSS-24 applying frequency, percentage, standard deviation and mean score etc. Findings showed that majority 47% respondents agreed that hey developed the translation of literary texts and subsequent acquaintance of students with reading, 55% respondents the writing skills of the students using explicit grammar instruction, 62% of the respondents agreed that they developed vocabulary knowledge by memorization of vocabulary and 62% of respondents agreed that they build vocabulary skills by use of grammar translation methods. The study concluded that translation of literary texts and subsequent acquaintance of students with reading, writing skills of the students using explicit grammar instruction, developed vocabulary knowledge by memorization of vocabulary and build vocabulary skills by use of grammar translation method. The study recommended that reading, writing, memorization and grammar translation method are helpful for the students of English at primary level.
