Abstract

This paper critically examines the interrelationship between Khudi (selfhood) and devotion to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the thought of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. For Iqbal, Khudi is not mere ego or self-assertion, but a profound spiritual reality rooted in faith, moral consciousness, and divine purpose. He emphasizes that the perfection and elevation of Khudi is only possible through love for the Prophet ﷺ, who represents the supreme model of human excellence. Drawing upon Iqbal’s seminal works—Asrār-i-Khudī, Bāl-i-Jibrīl, and Bāng-i-Darā—the study demonstrates that the revival and strength of the Muslim Ummah depend on rediscovering Khudi in the light of Prophetic devotion. Furthermore, the paper highlights the contemporary relevance of Iqbal’s message, particularly for modern Muslim youth struggling with materialism, identity crises, and spiritual emptiness. By situating Iqbal’s philosophy within both its intellectual and socio-religious context, the study argues that Khudi, when illuminated by Prophetic love, offers a transformative framework for individual and collective renewal.
