Dr. Abul Lais Siddiqui was also a literary journalist. During his life at Aligarh University when he was M.A Urdu Student from 1937 to 1938, he also served as the editor of famous Urdu journal “Aligarh Magazine”. His leadership includes two important issues the magazine, Iqbal number and Aligarh number. Iqbal number was published on 1st April 1938, and it was the second Iqbal number published in Iqbal’s life. In 1977 when Abul Lais was associated with Urdu Dictionary Board Karachi, as secretary and editor, in April 1977, 54th issue of the Board’s research magazine” Urdu Nama” was also published under his editorship. In it he wrote a comprehensive editorial, titled “Quaid e Azam”, regarding Qaid e Azam and Pakistan movement. But his greatest achievement as a literary journalist was the publication of monthly “Tehzeeb” Karachi, from the plat form of Aligarh Old boys’ association. He took over its responsibilities as editor and his editorials continued to be published in the magazine till his death in September 1994. These editorial of Lais Sahab is not just literary pieces of a literary personality but they contain important information about Pakistan movement, Sir Syed movement, history, Politics, culture, society, education and the role of leaders of scholars. There are memories related to Aligarh and important notes on literature and poets of Urdu. This article consists of a research study of Dr. Abul Lais Siddiqui’s literary editorials published in monthly “Tehzeeb”, Karachi.
