As the first quarter of the twenty‑first century approaches, Pakistan has become so politically and socially besieged that the Ideology of Pakistan is now under scrutiny. Even before its creation, such questions were common in drawing rooms, as reflected in Khadija Mastoor’s novel Angan. Yet the fervor of faith and the passion for freedom were so intense that any thought, notion, or doctrine opposing the demand for a free homeland couldn’t take root. All this energy centered on the conviction that we believe in one God and one Prophet ﷺ. We sought a free land where we could rebuild our lives according to Islamic principles, safe from colonial narratives and imperial powers that might erase our identity. There we could nurture our intellectual and cultural values and create literature devoted to true peace, human uplift, and unity—novels, stories, dramas, poems, ghazals, songs, and journalism imbued with faith and righteous deeds.
