Abstract

Dr. Hasan Manzar is regarded as a prominent name in Urdu fiction. He was born on March 4, 1934, in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, and migrated to Pakistan after Partition. He completed his MBBS from King Edward Medical College, Lahore, and later earned a degree in psychiatry from Edinburgh, Scotland.  Hasan Manzar's short stories reflect human psychology, social realities, and internal conflicts. His short story collections, ‘‘Rihai, ‘‘Nadidi’’, ‘‘Insan Ka Desh’’, and ‘‘Sui Bhook’’, showcase his intellectual depth. As a psychiatrist, his characters are not merely based on medical observations but are also influenced by social, cultural, and philosophical elements. His writings portray psychological complexities in a natural manner, compelling readers to engage in deep reflection. This unique aspect gives Hasan Manzar's fiction a distinct identity. He does not confine psychological struggles to scientific terminology but presents them through the everyday lives, actions, and dialogues of his characters in a highly organic way.His short stories make us realize that every individual, in one way or another, is burdened by internal conflict and psychological influences.
