Abstract

Balochi folk literature represents one of the richest and most vibrant oral traditions of South Asia, serving as a reservoir of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. Rooted in centuries-old tribal life, it reflects the social, ethical, and historical consciousness of the Baloch people. This study explores Balochi folk literature from both linguistic and cultural perspectives, analyzing its genres such as folktales, heroic poetry, proverbs, riddles, and folk songs. Linguistically, it highlights the preservation of archaic vocabulary, idiomatic richness, and stylistic variety that showcase the evolutionary stages of the Balochi language. Culturally, it illustrates the values of bravery, hospitality, sacrifice, and collective identity deeply embedded in Baloch society. The research also emphasizes the significance of oral traditions as carriers of social cohesion and historical memory in tribal structures. Comparative insights reveal commonalities with other regional folk literatures, while retaining unique linguistic and thematic expressions of Balochi identity. Furthermore, the study addresses contemporary challenges posed by globalization and modern communication, underlining the urgent need for documentation, digitization, and academic inclusion of Balochi folk literature. It concludes that Balochi folk literature is not merely an aesthetic form of expression but also a living social institution, vital for understanding the intellectual, cultural, and linguistic essence of Baloch society. Preservation and promotion of this heritage remain essential for safeguarding the identity and continuity of the Balochi language and culture in the modern era.
