Background: Colloid cysts are uncommon, benign tumors typically found in the third ventricle of the brain and are often discovered incidentally during imaging studies. This case report discusses a rare instance of a colloid cyst that presented as hypodense on computed tomography (CT) scans, which is unusual since these cysts usually appear hyperdense due to their gelatinous nature.
Case Presentation: We are reporting a case 35-year-old woman experienced symptoms including headaches, vomiting and Acute loss of consciousness. Initial CT imaging revealed an unexpected hypodense mass in the third ventricle, which was later confirmed to be a colloid cyst, emphasizing its atypical radiological features. The patient underwent successful surgical intervention, resulting in the resolution of her symptoms and an improved quality of life.
Discussion: Colloid cysts typically exhibit hyperdense characteristics on CT scans; however, they can occasionally present as hypodense lesions, complicating the diagnostic process. This case highlights the significance of recognizing unusual imaging characteristics of colloid cysts and the importance of advanced imaging techniques for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
Keywords: Hypodense Colloid cyst, Hydrocephalus.
