Abstract

Elastofibroma dorsi (EFD) is a benign soft tissue tumor that typically occurs in the infrascapular or subscapular regions and is most seen in elderly women (65-70 years) [1]. It is composed of a mixture of fibrous tissue with internal fatty streaks and classically located deep to serratus anterior and latissimus dorsi [2]. Commonly unilateral with slight right side predilection and in about 30% EFD are bilateral [3]. EFD are often asymptomatic but in about 50% it can cause discomfort or restricted movement. On FDG PET/CT imaging, EFD may pose a diagnostic challenge to nuclear physicians. These lesions vary in size and laterality and typically show mild to moderate FDG avidity by its dense fibrous tissue [3]. However, in case of inflammation within EFD, it may show high metabolic activity and mimic with malignant lesions like sarcoma or metastases.
