Abstract

Research Title: The Prophet’s ﷺ Method in Dialoguing with the Jews: A Study of the Hadith of al-Faltan ibn ‘Asim as a Model
Research Objective:To clarify the principles upon which the Prophet’s ﷺ method of dialoguing with the Jews was based, to demonstrate how the Prophet embodied the principle of persuasion through evidence rather than compulsion in his da‘wah (call to Islam), and to highlight his method of dealing with those who disagreed with him.
The researcher adopted the analytical and inferential da‘wah methodology, and through this study reached a number of key findings, the most prominent of which are:

The Prophet’s ﷺ dialogue with the Jews embodied the most refined, wise, and precise methods of dialogue, from which anyone engaging in dialogue with non-Muslims should benefit and emulate.
Among his ﷺ methods in dialoguing with the Jews were reasoning based on the opponent’s own beliefs, correcting misconceptions, showing forbearance toward opponents, gentleness in speech, and persuasion through argument rather than coercion or force.
One of the most prominent features of the Prophetic method in dialogue is presenting the message with wisdom and good exhortation, without imposing or compelling belief.
