This study investigates the relationship between police misconduct and public trust in District Bagh, Azad Kashmir. The primary objectives are to identify the types and prevalence of misconduct by police officers as perceived by local citizens; to examine how such perceptions influence trust in law enforcement; and to explore the demographic and socio economic factors that mediate this relationship. Using a mixed methods design, the research combines quantitative data from a structured survey of 500 residents across urban and rural areas with qualitative insights from 20 in depth interviews with community leaders, victims, and police personnel. The findings reveal that the most commonly reported police misconduct includes bribery, excessive use of force, abuse of authority, and neglect of duty. Higher incidences of perceived misconduct correlate strongly with lower levels of public trust, especially among younger and lower income citizens. Qualitative data underline that transparency, accountability, and accessible complaint mechanisms are critical in restoring confidence. The study concludes that to improve public trust, systemic reforms are needed: better training in human rights and professional ethics; stricter oversight and disciplinary procedures; and community engagement initiatives to bridge the perception gap. The policy implications extend to the regional administration as well as civil society stakeholders, suggesting a framework for reform that could be adapted in similar contexts.
