Brain based memory manipulation has been furthered rapidly by recent discoveries, particularly in synaptic plasticity and neural circuitry strategies, now making the manipulation of memories a more viable area of research. Unprecedented access to the brain’s memory system is available because of three technological methods: optogenetics, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, and deep brainstimulation (DBS). Consequently, scientists have proved memory enhancement and suppression methods in animal testing, while human medical trials are currently exploring memory-altering approaches.
