Abstract

Introduction: Periodontitis affects not only the surface layers and structures of the gums, but also the innate layers & structures that are essential for the solidity of the teeth & general dental health.
Methodology: A “Prospective randomized-controlled clinical study“ was conducted. 40 individuals with a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis were split into two clusters based on the type of therapy they received. Patients in cluster B received scaling & root planning only, while those in cluster A received hyaluronic acid with scaling and root planning. Before therapy, patients had a clinical evaluation. Bleeding on Probe (BOP), Plaque Index (PI), Clinical Attachment level (CAL), and Periodontal Depth (PD) were measured at baseline, three-month, and six-month follow-up examinations following therapy. SPSS version 26 was used to analyze the findings.
Results: After getting therapy, there was a noticeable improvement in the means of both groups' periodontal depth (PD) and Clinical attachment level (CAL). However, when comparing the two groups, Cluster 1 patients' findings were more significant (p<0.05) than those of Cluster 2. After receiving therapy, both groups of patients' BOP & PI showed a considerable decline, although there was no discernible difference in the mean values of BOP and PI in the two patient groups.
Conclusion: When used in conjunction with scaling and root planning (SRP), 0.8% hyaluronic acid (HA) gel greatly enhances clinical results in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Clinical attachment level (CAL) and periodontal depth (PD) decreased more in patients treated with HA+SRP than in those treated with SRP alone.
