Allama Muhammad Iqbal was a proficient poet, veteran thinker and skilled philosopher. Beside these, he was a pro Islamist. He studied Greek philosophy and the modern philosophy. He studied the holy Quran very deeply. He studied Islamic philosophers as well such as Rumi, Razi, and Ghazali. He announced Rumi as his spiritual mentor and his ideal philosopher. He studied and wrote about Friedrich Nietzsche, Wolfgang von Goethe, Arthur Schopenhauer and Henri Bergson. He discussed the most important issues of philosophy such as the genesis of time and space, free will, ego and religion. But his favorite topic of philosophy was the clash of intellect and love. He considered intellect as a student of love. According to him, intellect can never do what love can. He sees love as an eternal entity. He considered intuition as a superior source of knowledge than intellect. In this theory he concurred with Henri Bergson. He says that the present time needs a mentor like Rumi who can create love and faith in the heart of people. He has a deep faith in Islam. According to him, God hadn’t created a being superior than humans. And humans have that worth only because of love and affection. He sees humans worthless as ashes without love. He considers the love as more powerful weapon than intellect. In the following lines the author discussed Iqbal’s concept of love and intellect.
