Abstract

The detective novel is a popular subgenre of the novel. The investigation of any crime is called "Detection" and the investigator is the "detective". Detective literature is directly related to social reform. Detective writers try to choose a subject that will make the public aware of foreign spies and social crimes and prepare them to prevent these crimes themselves. The most important element of successful detective fiction is sensationalism. Before the establishment of Pakistan, detective novels were introduced in Urdu to the extent of adult literature, but children were completely ignored and no work could be done on detective novels for them. After the establishment of Pakistan, the new state faced more and more problems, while the problem of  law and order also started to weaken the new state. In such a situation, like other writers, detective novelists also came forward and they raised awareness and consciousness among the people about local as well as international level crimes. The names of  Ibn-e-Safi, Mazhar Kaleem, Tariq Ismail Sagar, Ishtiaq Ahmed are particularly noteworthy in this regard. Although Urdu critics were reluctant to accept detective literature as a part of  regular literature, but they have now accepted its importance and status.
