Abstract

Sirah is one of the most important branches of Islamic Studies. It is also one of the most revered branches of Islamic Studies due to the affection associated with the person of the Prophet (Peace be upon Him). There are plenty of sources in Islamic tradition where the events of S┘rah have been recorded, including, but not limited to, the Qur’┐n, compilations of ╓┐dith, dedicated books on S┘rah and books on Islamic history. However, not all the sources hold the same authenticity while narrating an event from the life of Prophet (Peace be upon Him). Utilizing the principles of historical criticism (us┴l al- riw┐yah) and logical criticism (us┴l al-dir┐yah), this study attempts to assess the authenticity of some of the events of Prophet Mu╒ammad’s (Peace be upon Him) life before first revelation.
