ABSTRACT Intro: Although sericulture as a cottage industry has a long history in Pakistan, it has not made any real progress until recently. The main impediment was lack of technical manpower for research in quality egg production, mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing, silk yarn technology, and cocoon and silk marketing. Other factors also played an important part in this regard. These include import policy for silk seed and raw silk and price fluctuations faced by farmers in sale of cocoons.
