ABSTRACT Juniperus excelsa M. Bieb (Syn. J. macropoda Boiss., J. polycarpos C. Koch) is one of the slowest growing trees of Pakistan and covers about 56,000 hectares in Baluchistan. The rainfall in this area is extremely low, erratic and climate conditions tend to be extreme during most parts of the year with high insolation, wind velocity and evaporation; and low soil moisture. Under such conditions the natural regeneration of this species is scanty and efforts are being made to plant it. The aim of the present investigation was to gain information about the water balance factors of this species under natural conditions.
