Abstract

The present qualitative research seeks to comprehend the notion of human soul addressed in the poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley. It primarily aims at interpreting the aforementioned notion along with providing an explanatory account of beliefs pertaining to it as reflected in the poetic contributions made by Shelley. The theoretical framework selected by researchers is, to substantiate the overall analysis and centers the theory of immortality of soul presented by Plato (trans. 1993) in his philosophical contribution Phaedo. The data has been analyzed through thematic analysis. The analytical tool pertaining to thematic analysis is based on Stirling’s (2001) approach which revolves around an understanding developed on the basis of global, organizing and basic themes reflected through textual content. Data has been collected from the specific work of the poet including Shelley’s Adonais (1913). On the basis of thematic analysis, it has been revealed the poet believes in the immortal nature of human soul. Shelley claims that human soul is an unchangeable and indestructible entity. It loves wisdom and manifests its true potentials after being liberated from the shackles of corporeal existence.||Keywords: Immortality of Soul, Adonais, Shelley, Human Soul.
