Abstract

This study investigated the mediating role of green engagement in the relationship between green HRM practices and eco-friendly employee empowerment in Pakistan's higher education sector. Data were collected from 368 employees at chartered universities using an online convenience sampling method. Green HRM practices were the exogenous variable, eco-friendly employee empowerment the endogenous variable, and green work engagement the mediating variable. SPSS and Smart PLS analyses confirmed the reliability and validity of the constructs, revealing a strong mediating effect of green work engagement. The findings suggest that policymakers in Pakistan's higher education can enhance eco-friendly employee empowerment through green HRM practices and work engagement. These results may also apply to higher education sectors in other regions, but not to other sectors due to the unique nature of the population studied. Future research could explore additional green management factors, such as corporate social responsibility, in this context.
