Abstract

Wheat, a staple food source around the world, contributes significantly to the nutritional intake of a large population, particularly in developing nations. This article explores the critical role of zinc in wheat and its implications for human health. While wheat constitutes a substantial portion of global caloric and protein consumption, its zinc content often falls short of recommended levels. Zinc is a crucial micronutrient for the growth and development of people, animals, and plants. The article explores the quantities of Zn in wheat grain on regional basis and the significance of zinc in various biological processes, such as immunity, DNA and RNA synthesis, phagocytosis, and its role in cell differentiation and defence against viral infections. Additionally, the article highlights the results of zinc deficiency on human health, ranging from impaired growth and immune function to more serious conditions like acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE). Finally, addressing techniques like bio-fortification Zn in wheat, Application Zinc fertilizers and transgenic mechanism that are used to increase grain zinc content meet daily recommended levels and to ensure a healthier, more nutritionally balanced diet
